Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mandapam today to inaugurate a landmark infrastructure marvel — India’s first vertical lift sea bridge, the New Pamban Bridge. Set in the picturesque region of Tamil Nadu’s Ramanathapuram district, this engineering feat connects the sacred Rameswaram Island with the mainland at Mandapam, replacing the century-old Pamban Bridge that had faithfully served for over 100 years.

The New Pamban Bridge stands as a symbol of India’s rising capabilities in infrastructure and innovation. Spanning approximately 2.2 kilometers, the bridge is built parallel to the original structure and is equipped with state-of-the-art vertical lift technology.
